Nova meter with black line across display

The Problem:

The Nova display only shows a black line across it and will not display any readings.

The Solution:  

The EPROM chip needs to be removed and reseated.

Step 1: Power off the Nova meter

Step 2: Remove the (4) screws from the back of the meter so it can be opened

Step 3: Remove the (2) standoff screws from the top of the Nova that are used to secure the sensor to the meter

Step 4: Remove the Analog Output retaining nut

Step 5: Remove the electronics boards from the back cover of the Nova meter

Step 6: Separate the two electronics boards

Step 7: Locate the EPROM on the second board and carefully remove and put back

It can be identified in the picture below on the left electronic board near the bottom that is circled in red

It should be a black chip that is approximately 12 mm x 10 mm in a brown socket with a firmware version sticker on top

Step 8: Reassemble the boards and put back into the case

Step 9: Replace the (2) standoff screws and front cover

Step 10: Replace the (4) screws in the back cover

Step 11: Power on the Nova to see that it responds as normal without the black line
