BeamGage Off-axis mode MajorMinor Beamwidth line calculation

Modified on Tue, 10 Dec, 2024 at 10:50 AM

BeamGage utilizes Bresenham's Line Alogrithm while in Off-axis mode.  Developed by Jack Brensenham at IBM in 1962, it remains one of the most reliable and accurate line algorithms in computing.

In BeamGage Off-axis mode, the selected pixels include the angular X/Y equivalent line which can be used directly in the standard ISO calculations without further modification.

There is a fractional degree of measurement uncertainty introduced by this technique which varies by the angular orientation and beam size.  In most cases the uncertainty is statistically insignificant and well within the accuracy tolerances for the product.  To avoid this, rotating the camera to the Major beam axis is the most ideal configuration when reduction of uncertainty is needed.  Off-axis mode is best when the camera cannot be aligned to the beam axes.
